Curriculum Bulletin

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome back after half term. As a team we are happy with the way the Year 3 children have settled into Fairisle Junior School and we are looking forward to another successful half term and the build up to Christmas! The children look lovely and smart in their school uniforms, however, there are still a few children without sweatshirts. These can be purchased from the school office.

We need your help! If you can spare one hour a week to hear children read we would like to hear from you. It is important for the children’s academic development that they are heard to read daily. As we stated in the last curriculum bulletin, “For children to make progress.... we ask that you hear your child read for 10 - 15 minutes a day.” But we also want to hear them read at school so if you can help, please come and see one of us.

Our History topic this half term is a ‘Local Study’. The children will be learning about what it was like living here in the past and how developments have changed the city of Southampton and Lordshill. If you have any photos or historical artefacts that could help us we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Please can I remind you that the children will receive three Physical Education (PE) sessions every week. One will be outside, weather permitting. For these sessions the children will need jogging bottoms, a sweatshirt and trainers. For indoor PE, the children will be barefoot and should wear shorts as these are less likely to cause them to trip. Earrings must not be worn. We expect all children to have the correct coloured kit which is red or white tops and black shorts or jogging bottoms. Kit is available from the school office if required. We have asked the children to bring in both their indoor and outdoor kit on Mondays and then take them home for washing on Friday.

A big WELL DONE to all the children that regularly complete and bring back their homework on time. Please remember homework is usually given out on a Wednesday and is due in the following Monday unless you are informed differently. Deadlines for homework will be written in homework diaries and we ask that homework be handed in on time to enable us to mark it and give feedback as soon as possible. Homework is an opportunity for you to spend quality time with your child and we would like you to share the same high expectations that we have at school. Children may be given detentions if homework is not completed on time or to the expected standard. Classroom doors open at 8.40am and this is an opportunity for children to get help with their homework.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or would like to come in and help.

Thank you for all your support.

Yours sincerely

Miss Bessey Miss Edwards Mrs John Mr Hayes
